Have a Ice Box or an area  you would like to convert to a refrigerated space?

There are several options available that will allow you to accomplish the task.

You will need to check the insulation of an existing Ice Box. The more insulation, the
lower the power draw from the battery.

Considerations for your conversion

  • Well insulated boxes will have a minimum of 2" of closed cell foam insulation for refrigerators and 3" for freezers
  • Your battery system will normally require an upgrade to higher capacity and the batteries must be heavy duty deep cycle.
  • Your battery system should be configured into 2 banks. The first bank should be heavy duty starting batteries that are only used for starting and the second bank should be your heavy duty deep cycle bank for the "house" loads. Once you determine the average daily battery load your battery capacity should be 3 times the daily load. If you determine the daily load will be 100 amp hours your installed battery bank should be a minimum of 300 amp hours. The heavy duty alternator and marine regulator you install to recharge the batteries should be at least 25% of the battery capacity.

Information regarding conversions

The types of systems are:

Air Cooled

   Frigoboat  (evaporator choices)

   Nova Kool

Water Cooled with a water pump
Up to 15% more efficient than air cooled systems

Water Cooled without a water pump
Up to 25% more efficient than air cooled systems
